Fred the Galah, our first adoptee in August, 2004

There can be nothing more rewarding than to have wildlife trust you enough to come up to you looking for a feed. We have been looking after birds for quite a few years and over time my wife has rescued many birds, most of which once rehabbed were released back to nature.

Unfortunately, not all birds can be released for whatever reason so either these were passed on to other carers to be looked after on a full time basis or we adopted them ourselves. As well as this, we have adopted birds passed on to us that have come from an abusive environment and Fred, a female galah, is one example. In fact, she is the first bird we adopted way back in August 2004, just over ten years ago. Here's photo of Fred I took in June:

I took this photo with one hand whilst Fred was inside her aviary.

As I mentioned above, she came from an abused environment when she was 36 and is now 46 and going really strong. You can read a bit about her history in an album I posted on my Wildlife in Nerang Facebook page using this link: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.465562856897198.1073741832.166412233478930&type=3

Above are two photos taken November 2013 outside Fred's aviary and in the sun. I try to take her out when I can and when she is happy to come out.

And this photo was taken in January, 2013.
